Wasn\u2019t the sunshine earlier this week an absolute treat? We were spoilt with beautiful days of warmth and sun, which would have been the perfect way to farewell the last week of h\u014dtoke (winter) and look forward to koanga (spring). Perhaps Troy sent us some of that sunshine our way from Brisbane, where he has been attending the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/appaconference.com.au\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">APPA Conference<\/a>. However, in true Palmy fashion, the sunshine never lasts long does it? The rain has hit hard this morning, with lightning flashing and thunder booming. If that wasn\u2019t enough, check out the&nbsp;<strong>hail<\/strong>&nbsp;that came pelting down around our kura (school), forming the most extraordinary shapes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"576\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/turiteaschoolwp.colmandesigns.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/ice.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8071\" srcset=\"https:\/\/turiteaschoolwp.colmandesigns.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/ice.webp 576w, https:\/\/turiteaschoolwp.colmandesigns.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/ice-225x300.webp 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not to worry though, our tamariki brought the sunshine today in a sea of k\u014dwhai (yellow) for&nbsp;<strong>Daffodil Day<\/strong>. Thanks to your generosity, so far we have raised&nbsp;<strong>$237.70<\/strong>&nbsp;in support of the&nbsp;<strong>Cancer Society<\/strong>, ka mau te wehi (awesome)! These meetings are an important opportunity to come together and discuss collective rights, conditions, and the future of education. Kia ora ki a koutou katoa (thank you all) for adjusting your day to collect your tamariki at 2pm, we appreciate your support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With much needed gumboots and rain jackets on,&nbsp;<strong>M\u0101tai<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>P\u014dhutukawa<\/strong>&nbsp;have braved the heavy rain to get stuck into the garden, preparing and planting to make it beautiful for spring and summer. To keep toasty and warm, they\u2019ve been using up the last of the pumpkins from Matariki, cooking pumpkin soup in the kitchen\u2026 the perfect treat on such a miserable day! Last week, they baked beetroot cake and spent time in the garden separating strawberries, re-potting, and sowing new seeds which you can see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/1GNFCXixoBI\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/LiqfhIispU0\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. Ng\u0101 mihi nui (a big thanks) to&nbsp;<strong>Meryl, Kirstin, and our volunteers<\/strong>&nbsp;who make these special experiences for our tamariki (children) possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nau mai, haere mai ki Te Kura o Turitea (Welcome to Turitea School) to&nbsp;<strong>Pascal<\/strong>&nbsp;and his parents,&nbsp;<strong>Caroline<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>James<\/strong>, the first in their wh\u0101nau to join our kura. Ki o Rahi is a fast and exciting traditional M\u0101ori ball game, based on the p\u016brakau (story) of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kiorahi.com\/story\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rahitutakahina and Tiarakurapakewai<\/a>. The paint brushes have certainly been busy, adding colour to the props (and maybe a little to arms and faces too). Tickets are selling fast so get in quick and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSfSHfhdjWFBqRCQWNhBmAZMO4b4Cpc81tBH-ZSPBJid22STdw\/viewform?usp=dialog\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">order now<\/a>&nbsp;to make sure you don\u2019t miss out!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Board of Trustees (BoT) Elections:<\/strong><br>With only&nbsp;<strong>12 days<\/strong>&nbsp;to go until voting closes for our Board of Trustees elections, I highly encourage you to take some time to read through the profiles of our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1hOK2azVUjB_ZqgST7Klk9JWFlLA54Kup\/view?usp=drive_link\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">seven candidates<\/a>&nbsp;standing for the&nbsp;<strong>five&nbsp;<\/strong>available positions. So far, only&nbsp;<strong>30.54% of eligible voters have had their say<\/strong>. This is a really important kaupapa (topic), as our Board is responsible for the governance and strategic direction of our kura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You should have received all the information you need to vote in an email from&nbsp;<strong>Election Pilot<\/strong>. You can cast your vote for up to&nbsp;<em>five candidates<\/em>. Online voting closes at&nbsp;<strong>4pm on Wednesday 10 September<\/strong>. If you\u2019re voting using the paper form, please drop it into the office voting box by&nbsp;<em>Wednesday 3 September<\/em>&nbsp;so it can be sent to Election Pilot in time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In recent p\u0101nui, Troy has been asking some really important p\u0101tai (questions) and has been gathering your responses through a series of multi-choice questions. These are all based on the central question: \u201cWhat qualities, dispositions, skills, and knowledge do you think our tamariki need to thrive?\u201d Your responses have been compiled&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1f61EIDv0oLfX-3OAt1KEhtnRiuETDsiHlU_XB80WrFA\/edit?tab=t.0\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last week\u2019s p\u0101tai was: \u201cAmong the skills that were listed, which ONE do you believe is the MOST crucial for our tamariki right now?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are your responses:<br>&#8211;<strong>21<\/strong> people chose problem solving<br>&#8211; <strong>3<\/strong> people chose creativity<br>&#8211;<strong>20<\/strong> people chose critical thinking<br>&#8211; <strong>3<\/strong> people chose teamwork<br>&#8211; <strong>9<\/strong> people chose self-management<br>&#8211; <strong>1<\/strong> person chose digital confidence<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Troy shared last week, this process is helping us gather informal voice as we prepare to update our <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1hN9Q4XrBJQGWtJKP8MJbwA5F2RnVgaTMUMveeMNAwe0\/edit?tab=t.0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Strategic Plan<\/a> next year.
