It has been all go here today hosting a Liz Kane Literacy conference here today in T\u0101ne Mahuta for 37 kaiako from around the Manawat\u016b rohe (region). Tammy<\/strong> from Roslyn ran the day, sharing \u2018pearls of wisdom\u2019 from her New Entrant classroom, hence all the cars at school this morning when you arrived. Don\u2019t fret, they will be gone by pick up. Excitement is also brewing for our Turitea School Fest<\/strong> tomorrow from 10am-2pm<\/strong>. Mihi atu (thank you) to those who have sent in a can, bottle and a packet for the raffles, baked for the bake sale, sent in pre-loved books for the book sale, signed up for a job on the day or sold raffle tickets. You have helped make tomorrow (hopefully) a success. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our newest Year 6 Mural <\/strong>which was revealed on Monday. If you missed it, the video is here<\/a>. Ng\u0101 mihi (Huge thanks) to Carolyn<\/strong> for leading them through this journey and to our artists; Ihaia, Kyerin, Harriet, Munroe, Lily, Maya and Mackenzie. <\/strong>Your mark has been left on our kura for many years to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday, we had a team of five competitors go to the Year 5\/6 Interschool Triathlon<\/strong> at Skoglund Park. Kyerin<\/strong> and Rory<\/strong> dominated the Year 6 Boys field finishing in first and second place, what an amazing achievement! Ayla <\/strong>finished 25th in the Year 6 Girls, Oliver<\/strong> came 39th in the Year 5 Boys and Joe<\/strong> came 46th in the Year 6 Boys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You might have seen on Facebook<\/a> that Fraser and I went to the Council Chambers<\/strong> to advocate for helping create a safer environment along Old West Road when getting your kids to and from kura. We even had a writeup in The Post<\/a> to hopefully drum up some further support. The picture below from the article should be enough, but we will keep pushing for change!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next Friday is our first Hui \u0100 Kura (School Assembly)<\/strong> at 2.20pm. All are welcome to attend. Camp had been the priority for the first part of the term, so now that we have ticked that job off the list, our Year 6\u2019s are ready to start hosting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are drawing to the close of our \u2018Have Your Say\u2019 campaign to collect wh\u0101nau voice. All we are asking is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

-What are we doing well?<\/strong>
<\/strong>-How can we improve?<\/strong>
<\/strong>-How can we maintain our unique character?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have just hit 65% of people sharing their whakaaro (thoughts\/ideas) with us. The survey is still live, so please use the link in Hero to \u2018Have Your Say\u2019 if you still haven\u2019t. We have been dishing out the prizes, as last week, Nina <\/strong>won the VIP Carpark for the term and Keith<\/strong> won $30 Hero credit. This week, Haley (Harley\u2019s Mum) <\/strong>won the $30 NW voucher and earlier today, Sarah<\/strong> (Oliver\u2019s Mum) chose the pool key for next season. We still have one left to draw on Monday morning for the credit on your next term’s sports fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hero app has had an upgrade and we can now use it to publish events, get permissions and transport etc. You may have already received a notification about one of these events. The picture above shows how this works on your app if you haven\u2019t figured it out yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier in the week Daniel<\/strong> came to share with me his amazing writing he did. Check it out above, not bad for someone who has just turned 6? I love that we can see how you sounded words out independently and had a go – Ka pai t\u014d mahi Daniel! (Great work) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

K\u014drero Mai:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Friday, I opened the booking for K\u014drero Mai (Learning Conferences) through Hero, where you can book in a 15 minute timeslot to meet with your child\u2019s kaiako (teacher) to discuss how their year has started. This is set for Wednesday 25th March from 1-8pm.<\/strong> Don\u2019t worry, we are not<\/strong> closing the school early! A few of us that don\u2019t have \u2018classes\u2019 will look after the kids to allow for the earlier start time for you all. These conferences can include your child if you wish, but your feedback suggested some prefer one-on-one sessions with the teacher. We will let you decide, our teachers will be prepared for however you choose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seesaw out, Hero in:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is your final reminder that we have now discontinued using Seesaw, leaving Hero <\/strong>to be our \u2018one stop shop\u2019 for admin and<\/strong> learning.
