Ng\u0101 mihi mahana ki a koutou, (Warm greetings to you all)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Move over Gucci, because we think we officially dropped the hottest collection of the season<\/strong><\/a>, as no school merch \u2018hits harder than ours!\u2019 As I wandered class to class this week, the ora (vibe) from the kids proudly showing off their new gear really warmed my heart. Seeing our tamariki have so much pride in wearing our school brand links them to our history, what we stand for, and one another. It is a strong showing of our uara (value) of whanaungatanga (positive relationships) that makes our little semi-rural kura so special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday our tuakana (seniors) from T\u014dtara travelled to Ballance Valley Rd as part of the Trees for Survival<\/strong> programme, which supports kura with the planting and growing of native trees to help restore habitats. Whaea Anneliese swapped classes with Cameron for the day to give her foot a rest. The weather wasn\u2019t favourable, but our tamariki loved getting out of the classroom and connecting with te taiao (our environment). The land is owned by Mali<\/strong>, an advocate for protecting bird life and restoring natural habitats. Huge mihi (thanks) to her, as she sponsored the bus, as well as provided the team with yummy kai to keep them going. Also thanks to Mark <\/strong>from TFS, and the parents\/wh\u0101nau who came along to tautoko (support). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week we sent two teams of runners to the Cluster Cross Country on Thursday and the Interschool Cross Country on Friday. We celebrated them all at Hui \u0100 Kura this afternoon, but we must give a special shoutout to our Year 3 Boys of James, Caleb and Archer <\/strong>who gave us the \u2018Turitea Trifecta\u2019 being the first three runners home. Kyerin and Rory<\/strong> completed the Year 6 Boys quinella by coming in first and second place too. Ollie<\/strong> won the Year 1 Boys event, Beckett <\/strong>won the Year 2 Boys event, Lachie <\/strong>won the Year 4 Boys event, Mila <\/strong>won the Year 4 Girls event and Penelope<\/strong> came a close second in the Year 2 Girls event. Kyerin and Rory <\/strong>followed up their strong showing at the Interschool event achieving another quinella in that event too!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nau mai haere mai (Welcome) Holly <\/strong>who joined Anna and Lynley in Rimu this week. Holly is the first in her wh\u0101nau to attend Turitea, so a special welcome to her and her parents Dev and Michael. We trust our amazing h\u0101pori (community) will make you feel very welcome. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

End of Term Reports:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our kaiako (teachers) are busy writing your child’s reports getting them ready for the end of the term. As you are aware, our Ministry of Education (MoE) introduced a new curriculum this year for Maths & Statistics and English. Because we have transitioned to these new teaching and assessment methods at the start of the year, you may notice a shift in your child\u2019s reported progress or achievement levels compared to previous years due to changing curriculum expectations. So our reports will look and feel a bit different than you may be used to, based on these changes. Have a look at the different descriptors in the graphic above that might give you some further clarity. We will have another round of K\u014drero Mai (Parent\/Teacher Conferences) early next term to discuss these reports further with you. If you missed our Curriculum Clarity evening we held last term, check out the slides<\/a> we shared with a bit more information about the shifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hui \u0100 Kura: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This afternoon\u2019s assembly was led by our tuakana (seniors) Liam, Andre and Michael.<\/strong> It was fantastic to see such a great turnout, mihi atu (thank you) to those who came along. It was a highlight to hear from T\u014dtara and R\u0101t\u0101 as they presented their recent mahi. We also took the time to whakanui (celebrate) our students who placed in the Cluster and Interschool Cross Country events, as well as those who are always demonstrating our uara (values). A massive congratulations to every student who received a tiwhikete (certificate) today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meryl and Kirstin continued their mahi with the \u0101konga (students) in Kauri for this exciting programme that runs every Friday. Check out what they got up to last week here<\/a> with installing their tracker tunnels and making yummy muffins!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the PTA:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have our AGM next Thursday<\/strong> evening from 6pm in the staffroom. It would be great to see some new faces, so come along. We are starting to organise the Quiz Night for next term, so please save the date of Saturday 19th September<\/strong> for this. If you are quite good at event planning and are interested in being on the sub-committee to help with the organisation, please reach out to the team at pta@turitea.school.nz<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
